Tips and Tricks for Acting in a Big Show

You’ll be given a highlighted script and given absolutely no time to prepare. How fun is that!

1. Dress appropriately, both for movement and for youngsters. You’ll be moving a lot. And this isn’t an audition, so please dress appropriately for an Elementary School setting.

2. Act out the scenery. Bring everything to life, including the background. No lines in a story? Be a tree, a jock in the high school hallway, or a chirping bird. And be ready to jump into a role if no one else takes it.

3. Be loud. Nothing bores a roomful of 5th graders faster than not being able to hear you.

4. When in doubt, be fast. Don’t skip anything, but remember we often have a limited window of about an hour and a half before the bell rings, or before attention spans fade.

5. The role of Narrator is important. Give it your all. Also, you can dictate the pace of the script.
