FOR FAMILIES / GUARDIANS

Congratulations, your student is a Young Storyteller!

Young Storytellers is an LA-based arts education nonprofit that’s been helping young people tell their stories for over 25 years in public schools - and have fun while doing it.

During our program, your child will be guided by a volunteer mentor, along with a group of other Young Storytellers, to create their own unique story over 9 weeks.

With our classroom-tested and standards-aligned activities and games, your student can explore their imagination. They might write about a heartwarming family memory, talking animals, or a sci-fi world with aliens.

Our program lets students decide what their story is and how they tell it. It also helps our students to gain confidence, become more interested in writing, and be better able to collaborate with others.

90% of teachers report that students become more confident in their ability to share

97% of students feel more able to work with others that they disagree with

Here’s the best part! At the end of each program, the school gathers for a “Big Show” where each story is read and performed live by local actors! The students walk the red carpet, sit in special seats of honor, and even get to select which actors play each of their characters – and you’ll be invited.

It truly is a fun and memorable experience. We can’t wait for your Young Storyteller to have their shining moment in the spotlight!

FOR STUDENTS

Welcome to Young Storytellers!

You found out you’re a Young Storyteller… now what?

Have you ever wondered how your favorite movies, videos, and games get made? At the core of each of them is a story, and in Young Storytellers, you’ll get to learn how to create one of your very own.

Whether you’ve never thought about writing a story, or if you already have pages of ideas, there’s a place for you at Young Storytellers.

Over nine weeks, you’ll work with a volunteer mentor to write a five-page story of your own from start to finish, complete with your own characters and dialogue. And you’ll play plenty of games along the way.

Here’s the best part! At the end of the program, your school will gather for a “Big Show” where each story is read and performed live by real, professional actors. Whatever you write down, they’ll act it out.

You’ll get to walk the red carpet, sit in special seats of honor, and even pick which actors perform your story. Your family will be invited, too!

You might even have the chance to attend or be part of the Biggest Show, which is an even bigger version of the Big Show – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

We’re so excited you’re here, and we can’t wait to see what you write. We’re so glad you’re a Young Storyteller!
