Alumni Lunch: Staying in Touch with Our Students

Earlier this month, we hosted an Alumni Lunch at our office in DTLA - and it was so much fun! The office was packed with over 30 of our former students and their families, as well as a few YS mentors and staff. A group of Collaborative Stories students came together and got to relive their moments writing stories together. We even had some students that started our programs online, during the start of the quarantine in 2020 who were able to meet in person for the very first time!

The day began with an icebreaker bingo game, in which alumni mingled, talked, and got to know each other. The cards contained fun personal facts submitted by the alumni, and the players had to ask around to find another player who fit the description on the card. It was great to see so many of our alumni interacting with each other. Bingo winners got to select their own prize, the most popular being our Young Storytellers hoodies - guess it’s all the cold weather we’ve been having in Los Angeles!

For lunch, we catered tacos from our local food truck favorite, Chingon. We got to tell our alumni about what programs we currently offer them, and ask everyone about what else they’d like to see from us. It was exciting to hear more about what our alumni have been up to since their programs ended and to learn more about how we can continue to support them.

The day was a total hit, and it made us so happy to have such a large turnout from our community. It was extra special hosting the lunch at our office space because it provided an opportunity for alumni to see how their work continues to inspire us every day: the walls of the office are adorned with Story Art inspired by our alumni’s scripts! Check out our pictures below and stay tuned to hear about our next Young Storytellers alumni gathering!
