Frequently Asked Questions
If I've done Live Scan for other organizations or purposes, can they use that?
Unfortunately, no. The Live Scan is organization specific and that information can never be shared. You will only need to do this once for YS and cleared of this requirement for the future.
How often do I need to have a TB assessment done?
If you complete a TB assessment and are placed at a school to volunteer, you will be cleared for the next 4 years! We will remind you when you need to get another TB assessment.
Can I miss any sessions?
Consistency is part of what makes our programs so effective. Your writer/s will be waiting to see you every week to continue work on their story. Please do all that you can to avoid missing a session. If upon signing up there is ONE week you know you’ll need to miss, we can work with that and plan ahead for a substitute. If you need to miss more than that, it is not a fit. And, if/when something comes up and you HAVE to miss a session, let your head mentor know as soon as possible so they can find a solution and have your writer/s covered.
Can I act in a Big Show if I am mentoring?
YES, But not in your school’s show. You are more than welcome to sign up as an actor and we will gladly place you at another school’s Big Show according to your availability. You can even perform in multiple shows!
I’ve never written a script before, can I still be a mentor?
YES. There is no experience needed to be a wonderful mentor in our programs. Your Head Mentor will lead the class and teach the curriculum. You will follow along and support your writer as they come up with all the ideas and you simply type them on the computer. All you need is a big heart and a desire to support young people telling their story.
